New Investment Announcement
Legacy Kingdom Fund is proud to announce the addition of Lai-Lu Management Company to its portfolio. Lai-Lu is a for-profit, missional business established among the Taileleu people of Indonesia. It is a Christian-based company that can help to faithfully shepherd the local people regarding financial stewardship and crop management while bringing honest, dignified work into the region.
The vision of Lai-Lu Management Co. is to see self-sustaining, self-replicating, gospel driven churches established to the glory of God. Lai-Lu Management Co. exists to promote faithful Christian witness within an unreached people group and relieve the economic barrier which is preventing the existing believers from being an independent, self-sustaining, and self-reproducing church body.
The Resource: Coconuts
Coconut is a socio-economically important palm in Indonesia, farmed mostly by smallholders. Indonesia has the largest coconut palm-growing areas in the world. The village of Taileleu is consistent with most of the coconut farms in Indonesia which strictly produce ordinary copra (dried sections of coconut meat) whose price is less than white copra (a higher grade and quality coconut meat). With the introduction of methods to use even one of the additional coconut products such as water, milk, oil, sugar, and shell charcoal , the value of ordinary copra can increase.
The first of the two-phase, nine-year plan begins with building a processing center with accompanying office and supporting infrastructure; providing microloans for individual’s planting; and offering educational seminars to build trust and equip farmers for financial management. The second phase adds the establishment of a coconut oil processing mill with the additional workers and increased infrastructure.
For the Tailelu community, Lai-Lu will offer impact across multiple bottom lines: job creation (economic), access to education, life skills training, and debt deliverance coaching (social and economic), Christian discipleship (spiritual), long-term sustainability and good stewardship of resources (economic and environmental). This company will counter the current oppression, exploitation, and addictions the Tailelu currently experience with healthcare, education, economic growth, financial stewardship, church planting, and discipleship.
Supporting Church Growth
Kevin and Sarah Cooney, residents of Indonesia since 2013, have dedicated their lives to seeing the Gospel advance among the unreached people of Indonesia. They are uniquely positioned and motivated to lead Lai-Lu Management Co. in both its business plan and as part of establishing healthy churches among the Mentawai peoples, of which the Tailelu are a part. Their goal is for people to join them in investing into the Mentawai people and sharing in the reward and privilege of seeing a “great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. (Rev. 7:9a)”
